AMFI’s inclusive SIP series is used consistently. Contributions are money invested, not gains. A SIP does not remove market risk or assure returns.

WHAT CHANGED · SEPTEMBER 2026

SIP contributions rose.
Industry assets moved lower.

Monthly SIP contributions rose 0.6% from August 2026, while month-end industry AUM fell 5.1%.

Money coming in and the value of invested assets are different measures. Market movements and withdrawals can reduce AUM even when SIP contributions increase.

PROTECTION IN CONTEXT · FY 2024–25

What insurance claims tell us

Health claims paid

₹94,248 crore

3.26 crore claims paid by general and health insurers during FY 2024–25.

Excludes personal accident and travel. A claim count is not a count of unique people.

Published amount: ₹94,247.60 crore; count: 326.01 lakh. IRDAI Table I.28 · printed page 42 (PDF) (opens in a new tab)

Individual life death claims paid

₹33,697 crore

10,11,880 policies paid during FY 2024–25.

This is individual death-claim business. It excludes group claims and is not total life benefits such as maturity or surrender payments.

Amount rounded as published. Policies are not unique families. IRDAI Table I.11 · printed page 18 (PDF) (opens in a new tab)

A small step today: keep your claim information ready

  • Check that the policy is active, who is insured and the applicable coverage conditions.
  • Keep the insurer or TPA contact and claim-assistance process easy to find.
  • Organise policy details, relevant treatment records and claim correspondence.
  • Tell a trusted family member where the information is kept.
  • Ask about waiting periods, exclusions, co-payments, deductibles and sub-limits.

This checklist is general awareness; the insurer’s policy wording and claim requirements apply.

KNOW THE DIFFERENCE

Four distinctions that matter

Folios ≠ unique investors

A folio is an account used to hold mutual fund investments. One investor may have several, so 28.62 crore folios does not mean 28.62 crore people.

AUM growth ≠ investment return

AUM is the value of assets managed at a point in time. New money, withdrawals and market prices all affect it. Your return depends on your own holdings, transactions, costs and dates.

Claims paid ≠ settlement ratio

A paid amount shows money paid out. A settlement ratio compares paid claims with a defined set of claims and may be measured by count or value. It cannot tell you whether your own claim will be accepted.

Industry data ≠ a recommendation

Large industry numbers do not establish that a product suits you. Start with your goal, time horizon, liquidity needs and ability to bear risk.
